Every home needs a getaway room, an island unto itself!

If you need inspiration for a room, especially one that is a relaxing sanctuary then the subtle side of this island is for you!  This tropical photo is the perfect balance of Aqua, Vanilla bean white, Khaki , Amber brown and  Avocado green.  My suggestion is, think about the places you have been or would like to travel.   Explore your bookshelf or go to the travel section of your local bookstore.  You’ll find a plethora of ideas and color combination’s. It is possible to enjoy the colors of the world right from your very own home!!!

The texture of these hats are a wonderful illustration and inspiration for your travel room.   What about a jute area rug ?

They look like books , but this is a storage box to place on your table or bookshelves.  Its the perfect shade of Aqua and a wonderful accent piece for your globetroting room!  You can purchase these at http://www.Wisteria.com

Water is not the only inspiration for a room.  Take a look at these fantastic Robin’s Eggs!

Flea Markets and Antique stores are great way to find the perfect color shade you are looking for to add the finishing touches to your room.

Needless to say, you’ll have more fun looking for your decorative accessories while riding in this retro Aqua car!  I put this in for my guy bloggers! Enjoy!

  1. it’s a buick by the way…from one of your guy bloggers. Thanks for keeping us entertained.

  2. So refreshing…and wonderful tips by the way…the pictures are perfectly chosen!

I am drawn to the flea market idea…but always afraid to get into that habit, lest I end up collecting too many nick-knacks..and before I know it..I will be the old lady sitting in a room full of things I can only use to serve up some more nostalgia:)

    • Juicer Girly! You are so funny! There was a time when I was on the verge of becoming that nostalgia laden woman! Thanks to several household moves and having to pack all that stuff cured me! So now I only buy what is absolutely necessary for good design! I do like a good flea market though….

By the way, I love the photograph of you!

  3. Haha…so necessity killed that ‘old lady+knick knack’ possibility for you?:)
I finally got around to adding that Gravatar Widget everyone raves about…thanks..taken from my iphone:)

  4. Wow, your iphone? Really great little pic! Ur such a cutie patootie!
By the way, “necessity” is the great enemy of the artist!!!

    • I am noting that down!:)
Isn’t it funny that they say ‘necessity is the mother of invention’? So science and art do not meet, at all?
Uh..sorry for throwing out these random questions at you. Will try to control myself in future!

P.S. Cutie-patootie is a new addition to my dictionary;)

  5. Amazingly beautiful! Where was that first photo taken? I’ve been all over the Caribbean, central and south America and have never seen those colors. Those are all great ideas that many of us would never think of!

I think Timm was right; the car is a Buick 8. I only know that because I read Steven King. Before you came into my life, he was where I got all my automotive knowledge and home decorating ideas.

    • For a couple of days now I’ve been trying respond to your comment with something snazzy but every time read your comment, I start to laugh again!
I love your quick-witted humor! People like you make blogging worth the effort! Happy Decorating Scott!

  6. These are my absolute favorite colors! I could just dive into those photos. Lovely, lovely!

  7. What a lovely blog you have. I’m enjoying the photos, and as a frustrated decorator (of my own home, not anyone else’s!), you’re giving me a lot of ideas. I love the organic and spa colors!

  8. SM, I love anything that has to do with a spa….especially the colors. Really appreciate you dropping by!
