Summer Interrupted…

542877527_5498d1df94When was the last time you stood out in the rain like a child  soaking up raindrops?  I tried it the other day and suddenly remembered how glorious those little atmospheric gifts felt on my face!  Each afternoon for the past few months our summer days have been interrupted by a blessed rain shower. Its as if each day the heavens open up and declare a meteorological half-time purposefully  cooling everything off  and as a result, reducing nature into a tolerable state of mind.   What lingers is a sublime vaporous mist and more often than not, a promissory rainbow!

fffoundNext time it rains…definitely take your shoes off !

  1. To paraphrase, simply beautiful.

Image and thought. And I love to walk in a rain, even more, a generous storm. I appreciate, surely, gentle days, a gentle cool breeze on my face. But once, both a storm and the sea joined that day, standing above a shallow bluff, I saw something of the ocean as I’d never seen, waves dancing in, long tresses glowing, like you wouldn’t believe. Thank you for the rain.

    • Neil…I love your poetic mind! I’ve so enjoyed reading your blog! You have such a wonderful gift and way with words…but I’m sure you’ve been told that before! Thank you so much for stopping by!

  2. Oh my lord, you just made me lust for Florida again! Where I live now in southern Spain it doesn’t rain a drop from mid-April till at least late September. You have watch the one little creek we have go from a pretty stream to a dried up, dusty, litter collecting ditch. I absolutely loved the daily Florida summer thunderstorms!! I’m very seriously considering going back in October of this year, and you just pushed me a little closer. . –did I mention that I’m a Pisces?
If you don’t mind me asking; where do you find such beautiful photos??

    • Scott!!!!!!! Yeah, you little Pisces’s you!

Yes, Florida is so beautiful ! The humidity is so thick everyone’s skin looks fabulous, except for the “Snow birds” who move there and worship the sun…they end up looking like the character in , “Something about Mary”!
I’m pleased to know that I’ve “pushed” you a little closer to coming home ….at least for a visit!

  3. Good words about the rain! No rain here in San Diego this time of year but that ocean is enough water for me! After work I have to get in that water.

  4. Thank you for the lovely photos, Vicki, and for creating this lovely space where I come each day to find a piece of peace…

  5. I miss water.

Some tree I am… I think all of my leaves are turning brown.

On the rare occasions it does rain here, we all run outside and stand just like the people above. Arms outstretched, face turned up, letting each cool drop drip wherever it lands.

    I really miss rain.

  6. I love it that you’re a tree….I love trees! HeHe!

    • I love that you made me a tree! It’s so fitting. I think I’m grounded with deep roots, continually reaching for the sky.

But trees do need water, and I’m not getting enough!

      • I like that…”deep roots ” and “reaching for the sky”! See, being a tree is so noble!
I hope you get some rain soon!

  7. I got to be in water yesterday, for the first time in a long time. It was like inhaling fresh, fresh air, which is how I feel when I see these photos.

    Thank you.

  8. This reminds me of last Sunday, when I complained to you that my photo shoot getting canceled:)
And now when I look at this pics, I am wondering why in the world did I not step out and do something else instead!

So the next time it rains…I am taking your advice and going for a walk:)

Great pics Vicki, you capture the theme so well. It shakes a leg, and then it breaks one. And I jump for joy in the rain:)

      • Just like you, I’ve been derailed at times with disappointment and sadly lost momentum on my creative calling. Fortunately life has a way of circling round again with a new canvas full of possibilities. Oddly enough, my work has been intensely greater in the rear view mirror of regret. See on the streets my friend…

  9. True. New possibilities everywhere: in that sense, it’s pretty myopic to feel restricted.
Exactly what the title of your last post was- ‘Inspiration surrounds you’:)
I know I can hop over to this space anytime, and get reminded, lest I forget.

I am off to the streets!

  10. Now, what exactly is this ‘rain’ you speak of?

    • Here on earth its a type of precipitation from a cloudburst which nourishes we humans. Next time your in our Solar System give me a heads up so we can experience some “Rain” together!
