Global thinking, worldly view!

Recently while out and about, I had the good fortune to stumble upon a map store.  I have always loved maps and globes in particular and thought it would be fun to see what was inside.  As I opened the squeaky , heavy wooden door a welcoming cow bell alerted all quizzical patrons I too, was about to enter a  whole new world.  All along the walls and tabletops, maps and globes  filled this cozy  treasure of a timeworn store.  As I pored over each map, I found myself in rapturous thought about all the places I’ve longed to visit.  I pictured in my mind the vibrant colorful countries I had read about over the years in National Geographic articles and remembered getting excited to open the” free” map included in many of its editions.  Upon reflection, I think maps bring us closer to a world we may never have the serendipity to sojourn…but its something to ponder and wish for.  Perhaps that is  why  many of us love  maps.  Do you have one in your house?  Where do you want to travel someday?

  1. Ahh I LOVE maps. I was given a globe when I was about 3 and I still have it in my room today! I’m certain that it is the reason for my obsession with travelling all over the world.

I feel like I can NEVER get enough of going to new places and I am always plotting my next adventure straight after getting back from the last. Travel is great, maps open up your mind and imagination so much. Love it love it love it.

  2. I love maps and especially globes. The thought of having the whole world in my hands.

Also, it’s been a fabulous journey watching your blog evolve. I love the tie in of the globes at the top.

  3. You know its funny Claire, you and FJ warned me it (my blog) would take on a life of its own….and it has!
Its been a fun journey thus far!!
Thanks again for your loyal sweet comments!

    • The blog really does look great. It looks so nice and clean and organized. I’m really big on organization. Everyone at work picks on me because my desk is always clean.

So now I’m an organized tree. That means I rake up my own leaves.

  4. “…serendipity to sojourn..”- You are showing shades of Frost. Nice! Very inspirational post! It’s my goal to live on 6 continents for at least a year each. I’m not overly concerned with Antarctica.

  5. My sister once had a large map on the wall in her living room and it looked out of place, so I never considered one as decoration. I see now that it wasn’t supported by the design of the room.

    These are great – thanks.

  6. The map over the sofa and cat in the second photo remind me of Sister Aurelia Joseph.

    She had a mustache.

  7. As in Aurelia Joseph (Mary Xavier) Fox who passed away in 2007. I think her blessed mustache issue is no longer.

    Thanks for stopping by KP!

  8. I Always have loved the look and colors of maps.

  9. Me too, I’ve liked maps since childhood!

  10. I was thinking… I want to decorate with a GPS unit on the wall behind a sofa! Would that count as a map? I love maps but gotta keep up with the times! Remember, I am the guy who hung a refrigerator door on his wall so I could display my daughters art from school. No crap on the real fridge! Love ya!

  11. As soon as I started reading your comment , the refrigerator door on the wall immediately came to mind! How funny is that! I still think that’s a wonderful idea!!! Do you have photo’s of that?
So my vote is yes, the GPS would work for you ! The only qualification was the refrig! Love ya too, hun!

  12. Nice, if you remember, I have a pretty good collection myself and some on still on walls.

  13. Yes, you have a wonderful book and map collection!
    I do remember….
Have a good week out in the field…take a map so you don’t get lost!

  14. Ooh..I have a lot to catch up with, in this corner of mine today:) Did I ever tell you that the title of your blog spells perfection. It’s exactly how I see it, my own little corner, where I go and muse over the colors of the world, a few strokes here and there, some play and some reminisces. Thank you for offering this lovely creative space to your readers.

Al ovely reminder this post, of age old globes and withering maps, their faraway lands beckoning. More nostalgia (I don’t have any maps or globes in my present apt), and the the promise of romance (I would love to get myself some maps this weekend)!

  15. Juicer … I don’t have any immediate plans for NYC…but my son is pushing me as we speak….hehe!
I could be persuaded though! I mean everyone needs to go to NYC at least once a year…right? Especially to see a good friend!
