Trees

I think I shall never see

A poem lovely as a tree.

A tree whose hungry mouth is prest

Against the earth’s sweet flowing breast,

A tree that looks at God all day,

And lifts her leafy arms to pray;

A tree that may in summer wear

A nest of robins in her hair;

Upon whose bosom snow has lain;

who intimately live with rain.

Poem’s are made by folks like me,

But only God can make a tree.

Joyce Kilmer (1886-1918)

    hi vicki,
    The photos are amazing, and such a beautiful poem to go with.

  2. Smitha you are such a doll ! Yes, I agree the photos are “amazing”! I guess you can tell I have a thing for trees! I read the poem years ago and thought it perfect to go along with these great fall photographs!
    As always, I love having you stop by!

    Hugs kiddo!

    Great entry, Vic…

    The first picture reminds me of the house I grew up in… My parents built it on the side of a mountain in western Massachusetts, on the old Colonial Boston Post Road… The Boston Post Road was the old Pony Express road that ran between the colonial cities of Albany, New York and Boston, Massachusetts… It was also part of the route taken by Colonel Henry Knox when he, on the orders of General George Washington, took the newly captured canons from Fort Ticonderoga and brought them to Boston for its defense during the Siege of Boston in the American War for Independence…

    Next door to my parents house, was one of the town’s original one room school houses, later expanded into a beautiful colonial home… Ringing this home, in it’s front and side yards were huge yellow maple trees, their trunks some two to three feet in diameter, and hundreds of years old, which turned the exact same brilliant yellow in the autumn… They turned all gold above, while they carpeted the ground with the same… You literally could not see the grass for all of the gold leaves…

    Raining gold in a golden world…

    Thanks for bringing that photo memory back to me, Vic… It’s always nice to revisit magic, however seemingly routine it may have been… I guess the magic is always there, you just need to look for it…

  4. Prescott,
    I love it! “Raining gold in a golden world”

    You have such a rich history with your family. How wonderful! There is something so amazing about the turning of the leaves….I never get tired of it!

  5. I love trees and I miss them intensely. No trees here. No falling leaves or changing colors. This is always the time of year that I want to live somewhere else. But the first time it snowed, I’d want to come back here.

  6. I’m always happy to share my trees with you, since you’re a tree and all !

  7. Beautiful and so romantic!
    (And as you can guess, I am back!:D)

    Love Fall, falling leaves, and fiery trees. Only in this part of the world, and for us to savor.
    Fabulous selection of images, Vicki! I know I will come back to this post when it gets cold and dreary:)

  8. Raven!
    Great to see you here! I’m still thinkin about your bear encounter! That photo is so terrific!
    Makes me think about those poor doggie Halloween outfits I posted! I still cannot believe how humans disrespect animals! Dogs and bears alike!
    Thanks for stopping by!

  9. Falling in love with trees?

    Not very difficult with you as instructress. I gladly accept this company of steadfast limbed kin. And your poem too, of course, fine companion in word.

    Thanks Vicki! And if patient, will we get to see frolic in the piles of fallen leaves?
