Recently while out and about, I had the good fortune to stumble upon a map store. I have always loved maps and globes in particular and thought it would be fun to see what was inside. As I opened the squeaky , heavy wooden door a welcoming cow bell alerted all quizzical patrons I too, was about to enter a whole new world. All along the walls and tabletops, maps and globes filled this cozy treasure of a timeworn store. As I pored over each map, I found myself in rapturous thought about all the places I’ve longed to visit. I pictured in my mind the vibrant colorful countries I had read about over the years in National Geographic articles and remembered getting excited to open the” free” map included in many of its editions. Upon reflection, I think maps bring us closer to a world we may never have the serendipity to sojourn…but its something to ponder and wish for. Perhaps that is why many of us love maps. Do you have one in your house? Where do you want to travel someday?
